A sometimes unnecessarily complex botanist from the Holy See of Ishgard with a love for poetry, justice, and freedom from persecution. Beneath her soft exterior, however, she harbours more than a few deadly secrets...
At least she would. If she could recall them.

UPDATED 17 JUNE 2021
A Brief Synopsis
Perne is an oft quiet woman and challenging to get to know. Although outwardly charitable and transparently diplomatic, she intentionally keeps information about herself to herself, only relinquishing it on a self-defined 'need to know' basis. Undoubtedly, she has been shaped, changed, and sometimes twisted by the past.
A botanist, Perne has penned a tome of her records and findings of floral constructive and deconstructive properties across Eorzea. In tandem with this knowledge, she has developed a variety of poisons and tested their effects on both herself and corpses of differing races.
She has an adoration for history, ancient ruins, and relics, and has allied herself with members of the Black Market for information, treasure hunting, and the selling of historical artefacts.
---
Perne's storyline has currently brought her to a new chapter where she doesn't remember the events of her imprisonment or the things that led her there, or even largely who she is. Her new journey forward will entail the discovery of her person and reacquainting herself with a past that is unfamiliar whilst making new connections and exploring new avenues.
History to Present
A product of older days and times in the Holy See, she is the daughter of an entrepreneur who once served the militia of dragoons and lance-wielding soldiers. Her family served House Dzemael and continues to show staunch devotion in spite of its poor reputation.
She was raised under intense quarantine, protected by three elder brothers, her mother, and her father. A child of lesser nobility who was supposed to believe her greatest loyalty belonged to her family. Instead, though she donned elegant dresses, she desired to follow in the footsteps of her brothers and enter the Ishgard militia.
In secret she trained with the youngest of her siblings and over time, fell in love with an aspiring dragoon, Aubrent Lemelle. After coming into her adulthood, she masqueraded in secret at Aubrent's side, both vigilantes serving the rebellions against Holy See persecution. Their intentions discovered, Aubrent was hunted down, left for dead. Perne's armour was stripped from her and she entered into quarantine once more.
-----
Years passed and the word of a theatre and opera house reached her ears. Under the condition that she would wed a nobleman of cloth, Raffael Prideaux, she was granted leave to offer investment to the opera house, Palazzo Aldenard, operated by Oleandre Torchier. Instead of becoming an investor, however, Oleandre recognised Perne's talents and hired her to serve as the casting manager of the Palazzo Aldenard.
She participated in a variety of musical and dramatic performances for the public, alongside her cousin, Elphanse Silmontaix.
-----
After a few years of growth and success, following Oleandre's decision to pass ownership of the Palazzo Aldenard, Perne relinquished her position and her place within the theatre company. In spite of those decisions, she remained an ally and agreed to continue gracing the stage and lending her assistance to the staff when time and circumstance both allowed for it.
-----
She started a whirlwind of unfortunate events when she offered a family heirloom to the Ishgardian springtime masquerade and auction to aid with the reconstruction efforts. Never anticipating it would eventually beckon the Inquisition onto her trail with accusations of witchcraft, she fled from the Holy See in hopes her absence would cause them to look elsewhere. While away from her homeland, she headlined the season of the [2020] Maria and Draco opera for the Palazzo Aldenard.
Toward the end of the season, she was located by Inquisitor Ricardier Clairemont who threatened the safety of the opera house and Perne surrendered herself to the Inquisition.
-----
Although she was to be returned to the Holy See in two suns from the date of apprehension, Perne de Archevauliere mysteriously vanished and was not seen again until nearly two moons after, when she was relocated to the gaols beneath the Vault, which was where she resided for the following ten moons, just shy of a year.
-----
Perne resurfaced in the summer [2021] as a ward under the Lemelle family, looked after by her guardian, the Vicomte Aubrent de Lemelle, a man who was once a captain in the Ishgardian military.
But something about her seems a little off...
------
She now resides in Blackiron Manor, a modest estate in the western Coerthan region, rarely coming to the Holy See proper as she recovers and begins the journey to rediscovering her past and herself.
I'm available for both in-game and out-of-game roleplay, but I can be difficult to get a hold of.
My discord is London Bridge#5283.
If you message me or intend to friend me, please tell me who you are first. I will not respond to friend requests or messages from people who fail to do this.
ººººº
Note that my work and real life schedule will take precedence to roleplay. If you cannot handle that, then I'm not the writing partner for you. Please respect my time and me, and I will repay you with the same courtesy.
ººººº
I appreciate a divide between what is considered IC and what is considered OOC. Sometimes Perne can be a little less than kind or unwelcoming. That's not a reflection of my thoughts. That's just how she is. I do not intend to use her as a mouthpiece for any of my personal thoughts or feelings.
ººººº
I enjoy narrative and introspection, and include these things in my roleplay. If you are looking for something that is surface level simplicity, that won't come with my writing or with Perne's characterisation.
ººººº
If you're familiar with Perne, then you might have some questions about what's going on with her.
The short version of the story is that she faced traumatic events whilst she was imprisoned by the Inquisition and as a defence mechanism reaction to the trauma, Perne repressed the memories of her past and of herself in an attempt to heal and move forward in her life.
It is my intention that Perne will regain her memories organically over time, though I have no concrete timeline for this. If you were acquainted with Perne prior to her imprisonment, feel free to interact with her, understanding that she has no immediate recollection of your character.
Feel free to DM me via Discord or send me tells in game if you have questions.
HOOKS
Please note that the below information pertains to Perne's history and background. At this moment, she has lost memories of her past and of herself, meaning she no longer knows she has the below connections.
Feel free to use them in your interactions with her with the above in mind.
-
Perne is a botanist and travels all across Eorzea for research on a tome that she's been penning that details constructive and destructive properties of plants. It's entirely possible and plausible to run into her in the open world. In fact, it makes more sense to run into her there than in any city-state aside from the Holy See.
-
All of the men in Perne's family have or are currently serving in the Ishgard militia, making her family name at the very least a recognisable one to others who would also be serving or have served in the past.
-
Perne's history with working against the Inquisition was once a secret until publicly outed. She once tried to bypass Inquisition authority when she was working alongside Aubrent. Perne held the Inquisition responsible for Aubrent Lemelle's passing and spent winters festering a hatred and sworn vengeance on those once serving, those affiliated, and their relations.
Perne spent approximately 14 years on an extremely subtle and methodical series of executed murders of former and current Inquisition members, in addition to their families.
She was later apprehended for these acts of vigilante 'justice' and held in the gaols of Ishgard for ten moons before she was freed and offered a controversial and suspiciously quiet pardon for her crimes. Her reintegration into society comes with a lack of memories of her past actions and her prior relationships with her people and family.
-
She's related to Elphanse Silmontaix, who has her own kind of renown in and out of the Holy See, it seems. And not necessarily a good kind of renown either. Both she and Elphanse are wards of House Dzemael, whom her family still staunchly supports.
Other potentially known contacts include Alandiel Silmontaix, Aramis Silmontaix, and Egrine Fugorier.
-
She was an avid performer for the Palazzo Aldenard Opera House, and most recently headlined the Maria and Draco opera [2020]. Those of the performing industry may have heard of her or saw her in previous productions when she was still the casting executive for Oleandre Torchier.
-
Perne is somewhat known for her philanthropy and charity, always willing to invest coin where she sees fit and proper. She has, on more than one occasion, made ample donation to various orphanages in the city-states, including her homeland's.
-
She has an interest in politics and respects Aymeric de Borel's concept of revolution and change for the Holy See. Prior to the content of the Heavensward expansion, Perne could oft be found listening to the various speeches depicting the coming evolution of her people and their society within Ishgard.
-
She's provided temporary shelter and refuge for those who have suffered physically / emotionally / otherwise at the hands of the Holy See Inquisition and persecution. She sought to proudly offer community support to those who were like her, or those accused of heresy and continued to endure the lingering effects of such an accusation.
SOCIALS
UPDATED 21 JUNE 2021
— IMMEDIATE FAMILY —
— REAUNEAUX ALDERIC DE ARCHEVAULIERE —
Perne's father. A former member of the Ishgardian militia and long-time supporter of the orthodox church. He has since his retirement and discharge from the military pursued entrepreneurial avenues.
He is a cold and cunning man, having raised his daughter under the notion that her value only amounts to what she can provide for the future sustenance of her family. His treatment of Perne has led her to have a largely volatile relationship with him.
---
He, along with the rest of the Archevauliere family, believes Perne to have been executed post her imprisonment.
— NOLENE DE SAUVETERRE —
Perne's mother. Prior to her betrothal to Reauneaux, Nolene had desires to pursue the arts of thaumaturgy that were put aside once she was married and started the additions to the Archevauliere household.
Nolene is a very resigned individual despite her ever consistent presence in Perne's life. Her relationship to her daughter is a sympathetic one, though she interferes very little and appears to have equally little to say in response to Perne's actions and pursuits.
— CYRIL DE ARCHEVAULIERE —
The eldest of Perne's brothers. Serious and rather self-involved, he is supportive of Perne when he can be, though they do not possess a particularly close relationship. Like the rest of his brothers and his father before him, he serves the Ishgardian militia and is oft away on patrol.
— ASHEAUX DE ARCHEVAULIERE —
The middle brother and member of Ishgardian militia. Unlike his other brothers who have solely honed their skills with polearms and lances, Asheaux is also capable of wielding axes. Gifted with a decent sense of humour, he is a kind man, the sort Perne would like to emulate herself after. Although they are not as close as she would like them to be, she respects him a great deal.
— DION DE ARCHEVAULIERE —
The youngest of Perne's brothers. Dion and Perne grew up together and as a consequence, she is closest to him within her family. Where their parents attempted to stifle her creativity and her desires, Dion has ever consistently humoured her. He has trained with her and largely spoiled her.
Perne's relationship and feelings for Dion are positive yet complicated at best, though both of them and the intimate nature of their closeness has been a topic in some of Ishgard's social circles.
— EXTENDED FAMILY —
— ELPHANSE SILMONTAIX —
One of Perne's many cousins. Elphanse is headstrong and admirable with quite a history behind her. She serves as Perne's foil in many ways—rebellious, unabashed, resolute, and strong in her convictions. Perne admires and cares for her deeply, all whilst possessing an air of envy for all that Elphanse is.
A cunning and clever woman, Elphanse is, to the outside eye, an undoubtedly dangerous woman. But in Perne's company, she can be as soft and delicate as a flower.
Elphanse is one of the few people Perne feels she can show her truest self to and around. Regardless of whatever Perne may claim, however, she and Elphanse are more alike than either of them may even be aware of...
---
Perne and Elphanse reunited at the Fourth Annual Silmontaix Masquerade [2021]. Despite being faced with a cousin who has no recollection of her, Elphanse has welcomed her to a home with open arms, determined to get to the bottom of Perne's 'affliction' and how the Vicomte de Lemelle is tied into things.
— ARAMIS SILMONTAIX —
Elphanse's husband and Perne's cousin by marriage.
Perne has really only heard stories about Aramis, though when she originally met him, he disappeared not long after and most assumed he had simply passed on. When he reappeared at the Ishgardian spring masquerade and silent auction, it was not only a reunion, but also a chance to get to know a man who Perne had fiercely believed abandoned her cousin.
Aramis is kind and stern, in some ways a reminder of the Aubrent from Perne's past. Although Perne appreciates how protective he is over her, she questions how likely it is for him to reintegrate himself with the society he was removed from cycles ago and the family who seemingly moved on without him.
---
Aramis and Perne have not reunited since her release from imprisonment.
— ALANDIEL SILMONTAIX —
One of Perne's many cousins. Alandiel is rumoured to be the one who happens to actually be capable of making her family proud. Referred to as the 'good' cousin, Alandiel is very likely what the rest of the Dzemael Cousins ought to be.
Perne does not know very much about her, but tends to perceive her as serious and heartfelt.
---
Alandiel and Perne have not reunited since her imprisonment.
— EGRINE FUGORIER —
One of Perne's many cousins, though they do not appear to be related by blood. Whether they are or not, this does not appear to matter to Perne, who has decreed that Egrine is her cousin all the same.
Egrine is a stern, calculating, and seemingly analytical woman who is sometimes capable of even breaking Perne's colder exterior to replace it with wariness and uncertainty. With a single look, she was once able to provoke Perne to cowering. Perne has grown accustomed to this, however, and rather has found in Egrine a kindred spirit.
Knowing that Egrine is not a sentimental type, Perne would never say it, but she cares for Egrine to a great extent and as she would for any of her cousins, would do most anything for her.
---
Egrine and Perne have not reunited since her imprisonment.
— BREANDAN DUCAILLE —
Breandan is a cousin of the Silmontaix family by way of adoption, though Perne has always considered him to be of blood relation.
Although she has found him to be kind and rather generous, Perne often finds that she doesn't know what to say in his presence and unlike most others, she frequently trips over her tongue in their times together whether they be in public or in private.
Her knowledge on him is rather sparse, though to her understanding, she has a bit more of a romantic soul than he does, and oft concerns that she sounds rather foolish when she waxes on.
---
Breandan and Perne reunited at the Silmontaix Masquerade of 2021, though neither knew of the other until shortly beyond that. Whether he knows the details of her status are unknown as they've not had the opportunity to speak more with one another, but he does seem to be aware that she has no prior memories of him or of their relation to one another.
The only thing that seems particularly clear is that Breandan missed her in her absence, perhaps a sentiment he ordinarily wouldn't share.
— ALLIES & ACQUAINTANCES —
— VICOMTE AUBRENT DE LEMELLE —
A commander of the Ishgardian militia of yore during Perne's adolescence. He boasted a close relationship with all of Perne's brothers, and later with Perne as well.
A seemingly serious man with glimpses of witty and sometimes cynical humour, Aubrent took Ishgard's state of being seriously, supported the notion of revolution, and was later branded as a heretic, with Perne as his accomplice.
It was stated that he was executed for his crimes while Perne was released under a great deal of Inquisition scrutiny. Perne mourned Aubrent's death. She believed she loved the man and suspected she'd never love another. Rather, she refused to allow herself any sentiments that are similar to it.
---
When Aubrent regained himself from Inquisition indoctrination, he not only rescued Perne, but he retaliated against the members of the Inquisition who turned him, securing his future.
For his years of dedicated service, he was elevated to Vicomte de Lemelle, but mockingly was sent to a distant estate in western Coerthan territory, where he and Perne now reside at Blackiron Manor, and he works with soldiers travelling through the area.
Aubrent gives Perne very little information about her past and has publicly proclaimed that he didn't know her prior to being assigned as her guardian. His information appears to be... suspect, at best, and often his explanations are ominous and cryptic.
— RUSTY AXE —
Perne and Rusty had only crossed paths once or twice in the past, but evidently they were enough to be rather solid in the mind of the latter.
When they reunited at the Silmontaix Masquerade of 2021, he was insistent that she was not only a warrior in her own right, she was the grandiose headliner for Maria and Draco.
Devastated that Perne didn't remember him, he vowed to offer her the support she needed as she travelled the path of rediscovering herself.
— POPITO POPOTO —
Seemingly Oleandre's right-hand man and the current creative mind operating the Palazzo Aldenard Opera House. Popito is an overly serious lalafell with a penchant for ever infinite frowning, though where he seems largely displeased with most, he and Perne have quite the positive relationship.
Popito is the only person to date outside of her family who refers to Perne as 'Mistress Archevauliere,' a moniker which tickles her pink.
— ENEMIES —
— RAFFAEL DE PRIDEAUX —
Raffael and his immediate family have been long-time supporters of the orthodox church and the older traditions followed by the Holy See. It was this, in tandem with his persistence that won him the approval of Reauneaux and blessing to have Perne's hand in marriage. They have been promised to one another for three winters, under the agreement that once Perne's work with the Palazzo Aldenard was completed, she would return home, and prepare for her bonding ceremony.
Perne despises Raffael for a number of reasons. He's cocky, arrogant, and seeks to stifle her pursuits. Not least of all, he has stood betwixt her and her revenge against the Inquisition for the murder of Aubrent Lemelle at the hands of his younger brother, Brialant.
---
During Perne's imprisonment in the Vault gaols, Raffael was also apprehended. His current whereabouts are unknown, but there is no public record of his death.
— BRIALANT DE PRIDEAUX —
Like his older brother, Brialant has been a devoted loyalist in favour of Ishgard's historical traditions and the power of the orthodox church with its accompanying Inquisition.
Although not a member of the Inquisition himself, he boasted a close kinship to Larrelle Mearuhaux, the Inquisitor responsible for interceding Aubrent and Perne's involvement with the resistance and escape of accused heretics. At her request, Brialant hunted down them both and turned them into the Inquisition for their conduct.
Perne believes he is the one who killed Aubrent, though she has no proof of this. It has never stopped her from loathing him with a flame-like intensity, and much of that has built the ever-growing rift betwixt her and his older brother.
---
Like Raffael, Brialant was eventually brought in for questioning during Perne's imprisonment as Ricardier gathered evidence for her trial. His whereabouts are also unknown.
— RICARDIER CLAIREMONT —
Clairemont, a supporter of the orthodox church and old blood Inquisitor, was hired by Perne's father to track down the family heirloom she offered for Ishgard reconstruction efforts at the [2020] silent auction and masquerade.
Not long after, he accused her of witchcraft and ultimately took her into custody on behalf of the Inquisition.
Ricardier is an incredibly cruel man with a staunch devotion to older and outdated traditions and ideals of the Holy See.
At times, he shows glimpses and other sides to him, implying he is, in fact, a multifaceted individual. He has shown he is also capable of being fiercely protective and even gentle, of all things. Perne can only speculate as to whether there is truth in these things, or if they are simply a part of his brilliantly concocted charade.
---
Ricardier Clairemont was revealed to be Aubrent Lemelle in disguise, indoctrinated by members of the Inquisition. He later recovered his true identity and in a positive turn of events, freed Perne from her imprisonment, obtaining a controversial pardon for her multitude of crimes.
